Committees and Reports
Standing Committees
The Academic Priorities Committee (APC), chaired by the provost, provides oversight of academic programs and is responsible for making recommendations to the president concerning the growth and allocation of resources in support of education and research. The committee is composed of six faculty members and six senior academic administrators.
The University Resources Committee is chaired by the provost and composed of faculty, students and administrators, reflecting Brown’s shared governance model, and is responsible for recommending Brown’s annual operating and capital budget to the president.
Several committees — including the Capital Planning Committee, Capital Planning Working Group and Space Committee — provide oversight of and input into capital projects at Brown, ensuring alignment with University goals.
Ad-Hoc Committees
Research Appointments Work Group
The Operational Plan for Investing in Research announced the Research Appointments Work Group, with the charge of recommending consistent practices and policies for the University's research faculty, research staff and postdoctoral scholars.
Task Force on Doctoral Education
The Task Force on Doctoral Education was charged with developing recommendations for promoting outstanding, innovative graduate education that supports the University’s excellence in research and teaching while also preparing graduates for desired career outcomes.
Task Force on the Status of Women Faculty
The Task Force on the Status of Women Faculty was charged with assessing any disparities in opportunities and outcomes between similarly situated women and men on the Brown faculty and making recommendations for changes that advance the University’s mission of education and research.
Task Force on Diversity in the Curriculum
Convened in 2016, The Task Force on Diversity in the Curriculum assessed whether the Diverse Perspectives in Liberal Learning (DPLL) designation for courses served its intended purpose and addressed a specific set of related questions.
Winter Term Working Group
The Winter Term Working Group, comprised of faculty, students and staff, was charged with undertaking a review of the academic calendar with a particular focus on the winter recess.
